The method we call Tradition l is the one that is based on expository classes, in which the teacher speaks (a monologue, usually) and the student listens. The content is revealed by the teacher there in class. The student is responsible for doing fixation exercises later (which usually occurs on the eve of a test).

Although technological tools have taken space, remote teaching has been the way out throughout the pandemic, little has been broken with this method behind the apparatuses we have today.

The case method brings another perspective to this student-teacher encounter.

Based on the use of the cases, the teacher conducts a debate on a topic that the student has already had contact with (in the preparation phase). Thus begins the inversion of logic (what we call the flipped classroom or flipped classroom ). The student needs to have prepared and be available to participate in the collective construction, which seeks to apply concepts to problematic situations (what we call problem-based learning, or problem based learning ). Listen to new approaches, listen to colleagues' points and have a welcoming space to speak. The teacher will continue to lead so that new elements are added, so that the points of contact with the theory are perceived. Convergences and divergences are welcome and enrich the process.

To transition from one model to the other, it takes willingness on both sides.

Tools that only reinforce the role that one speaks and the other listens do not contribute to this path. Classes prepared around a long exposition and without time for debate do not contribute either.

It has seemed to me, more and more, that it is not just a matter of using or not using cases as central pedagogical elements. But, to feed an interaction based more on exchanges than on unilateral exposure.

In this way, we will be able to move towards a more contemporary, collaborative and critical learning.
